Různí umělci se k snaží k můzám přiblížit různým způsobem. Nedávno jsem poslouchal za sebou několik verzí Dylanovy Mr. Tambourine Man a hned potom Reedovu Heroin a přemýšlel jsem o tom, jak moc silnou inspirací se umělcům mohou stát drogy. Psát o nich v pozitivním duchu je možná nemoderní a politicky nekorektní, ale jejich vliv na některé sklady je neoddiskutovatelný a ony sklady jsou často jedny z nejlepších, jaké daný umělec složil. „Drogové“ písně jsou většinou ospalé, pomale plynoucí a dlouhé. Jejich texty jsou zašmodrchané a bez nějaké konkrétní myšlenky, ale jsou zase prodchnuty fantazií a snivostí. Mně samotnému se tato hravost a fantazie puštěná ze řetězu líbí víc.
S ukázkami začnu už se zmíněnou Mr. Tambourine Man od Boba Dylana. Zapomeňte na verze od Byrds nebo od Smokie, všechny předělávky této jedné z nejpřebíranějších písní ztrácí Dylanův smysl pro náladu a mystiku.
